Fair Housing in WA Real Estate Market

On March 14, 2025, Real Estate Academy of Washington will host an engaging three-hour informative event encouraging brokers to increase their awareness of the Fair Housing Justice Center. Mark Hein, eXp Realty Real Estate Agent, features the upcoming event to be hosted at Century 21 Beutler & Associates Spokane:

Mark Hein Fair Housing WA

A history of discrimination has made a monumentally negative impact throughout the history of American homeownership.  Unfortunately, a lack of understanding of this unique hurdle of experience has created a gap between many brokers and their clients.  It is the duty and responsibility of real estate brokers, real estate agents and realtors to recognize the difficulties posed by a history of discrimination, in terms of securing housing.

The Fair Housing in WA event by Real Estate Academy Washington will explore how brokers can better understand the legal framework set forth to prevent housing discrimination.  Fair housing opportunities are simple in theory: everyone should have access to quality, affordable housing regardless of age, sex, race, ability or any other identity.  Unfortunately, housing discrimination is a very real issue.  Even in 2025, many prospective homeowners and event renters struggle to overcome this hurdle.  At the Fair Housing in WA Real Estate Market event, Real Estate Academy Washington will proactively imprint an understanding that all people should be treated equally — in the real estate market, homebuying and selling experiences and, of course, in every other aspect of business and life.

Mark Hein Washington Real Estate

Meet Requirements of Washington State Department of Licensing

In order to pursue a career as a Real Estate Agent / Realtor, you must meet the requirements of the Washington State Department of Licensing.  Mark Hein outlines those requirements as follows: You must be at least 18 years of age and maintain a diploma or equivalent (i.e. GED).  Additionally, you must complete 90 hours of real estate training at an approved institution, which includes a 60 hour course in Real Estate Fundamentals and a 30 hour course in Real Estate Practices.

Complete Real Estate Training

In Washington, it is required to complete 90 hours of real estate training.  This includes a 60 hour course focused on Real Estate Fundamentals and a 90 hour course going over Real Estate practices.  Mark Hein encourages you to visit the Washington State Department of Licensing Course Search to locate an approved training institution.

Licensing Exam & Application

Once you have completed the necessary training, you must pass the Washington State licensing exam.  Once a passing score is achieved, submit an application to receive a license within the state.  If you wish to work with Buyers and Sellers outside of Washington, you will have to repeat the licensing exam and application process as per the state’s requirements.

Connect with a Brokerage

Join a team!   While many real estate agents choose to work independently, they are often still required to work under a supervising broker.  Mark Hein is a proud member of the eXp Realty team located in Spokane, WA. He is available to work with Buyers and Sellers in Seattle and Greater Washington — and you can, too after completing your real estate training and connecting with a local brokerage team!
